HOW IT STARTED
Wow it's been 10 years since our small website and Twitter account emerged in the mountains of Colorado. Unlike other online ventures this wasn't your typical for-profit start-up. It wasn't about making money… instead it was about making and maintaining connections between a father with a heart condition and his son with autism. Sharing photos was how they communicated and stayed connected. But then it began to evolve into something more.
When classmates bullied the mountains comforted… when adults misdiagnosed or misunderstood the mountains were accepting and built self-esteem. We were told to take our problems and go away more than once over the years. Meanwhile our skills grew and others began to notice the photos and content we were sharing online. Today.... most locals still have no idea who we are, how long ago it started or most importantly why. More than a few thought our name was cool and our idea worth imitating over the years and some still do. Imitation is the highest form of flattery after all.
Well it's X now not Twitter anymore… and the website has been through a few changes. Many found us after adding our better known Instagram account. So what used to be just a father and son sharing photos now connects with thousands of people on multiple platforms every month. We never imagined reaching any people… or thought of ourselves as a brand or business! We just wanted to be a local family.
To celebrate 10 years we want to put the brand we did not know we were building to work helping others find ways to connect with the mountains and each other. We didn't get here doing things like a traditional for-profit start-up so we are not going to change our style or approach now. But we are excited to grow and work with like-minded entrepreneurs who want to make a greater community impact with online content and live events. We look forward to sharing our innovative social enterprise to help more people help themselves and each other… and we can't wait to hear your ideas too.
Thanks for following us over the last 10 years… and we hope you'll join us for the next 10 years too.
Cheers!
