What Housing Crisis?

Anybody else wondering why the same rentals are always available on craigslist? Or how about the newspaper publishes average one bedroom rental 1500, but the only one bedrooms in the classified are asking 2100 and up? If there is such a housing crisis why aren't these units all snapped up? They must great and be worth every penny! The landlord must be great…right? Or… is it possible… just maybe… these are scams? Rip-off artists? Or just the very slum lords that give mountain resort communities a bad name revealing themselves?

This isn't about expensive studies, finding land or building units. This is about advertising available housing for rent that either does not exist, or is intended to exploit the desperately needed housing situation. If it's fairly priced why would it not be rented? For a business looking for help housing would be an advantage to them? How about businesses with temporary workers? What about charities and organization working on housing solutions? Why wouldn't a landlord wanting to rent their unit explore all avenues including these and others? Hmmmm…the questions go on and on.

Perhaps a great place to start would be monitoring craigslist for these same ads over and over. After all the high Rockies section includes housing for almost all of Colorado's mountain resort communities on one page. Then investigating why certain suspect ads for units are continually showing up and going unoccupied? After all someone is going through the effort to post these ads every day or every other day. Upon closer inspection by authorities they may detect and avoid fraud and other more sinister plots.

Ask yourself this…if these were lift ticket or parking scams at your favorite resort do you think someone would be looking into it?
