Top 5 Ideas to adapt to climate change and travel slumps
It's time to adapt to the impacts of
climate change and the slump on mountain resort business and
travel. A late start to the season with an unusually warm and
rainy spring combined with the election of a new administration
has many resort companies bracing for disappointing numbers in
spite of some really good snow. Turbulent times may lie ahead
for the next several seasons so get prepared.
Let's hope the resort companies and
municipalities look to being positive and taking a more
pro-active approach to investing in their businesses and
communities. The biggest mistake would be to start making cuts
to everything and trying to charge the same prices. That will
only compound the situation by under serving the customers who
do come.
The focus must be on establishing a
balance between foreign and domestic visitors while rewarding
loyal customers and attracting new ones. Charging more and
providing less probably isn't the best approach… so how about
trying to catch up with more positive approaches and modern
strategies that would:
#1 Promote Fresh Ideas from New Blood
not the same old ideas from the same old Blood
#2 Distinguish what's actually a
tradition and what's just obsolete and outdated
#3 Improve results with New Business
Models eliminating unnecessary & costly middlemen
#4 Focus on sports & music events to
increase visitors at resorts & communities year-round
#5 Change people & policies that
prevent new events & business from coming & succeeding
Maybe mountain resorts and executives
will learn and improve from this experience?
Maybe they will find they catered too
much to one audience at the expensive of others?
Maybe they will discover a balance to
create better experiences for many more people!
Maybe? Guess we'll just have to wait
and see.
